I was drawn to natural healing from an early age; but before finding my calling as a yoga teacher, I was an academic enthusiast who never wanted to leave college. I spent several years at the University of Cincinnati studying and earning degrees and certificates in everything from Marketing and International Business, to Deaf Studies, Philosophy, and International Human Rights. A yoga practice has been an integral part of my life, bringing mental calm and clarity, helping me manage chronic anxiety, and relieving chronic pain from a connective tissue disorder (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome).
Letting go and quieting the ego can be the most challenging things people encounter when they first start their yoga practices. I encourage students to practice toward progress rather than perfection. To that end, I work to create a safe and supportive space where students can tune into their bodies and emotions, fully embrace their vulnerability, and let the mindfulness of practice radiate into daily life.
Driven by my curiosity and desire to make classes accessible to every age, ability level, and body type, I continuously do everything I can to keep learning and fill my "yoga tool kit," through attendance of workshops and trainings to enrich private and group yoga classes. Some of these intensives have been with Saraswathi Jois, Kino MacGregor, Rodney & Colleen Yee, Tara Judelle, Dr. Scott Lyons, Meredith Hogan, Nancy Willman, Kate Noble, Tayla Ring, Steve Emmerman, and Taylor Hunt. I have a passion for world travel and like to tour different studios and yoga teachers while on my trips.
My RYT 200-hour training at Bija School of Yoga focused on Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga. I am also a True Body Project Somatic Educator, locally and internationally, teaching classes on mind-body connection primarily to young girls and women through movement (such as yoga and dance), pranayama breath work, writing, and art. I earned my certificate for Prenatal yoga (PRYT) with Kate Noble at Shine Yoga, and am nearing completion of my Urban Zen Integrative Therapy 250-hour advanced training through Yoga on High (modalities including: yoga therapy, reiki, essential oil therapy, nutrition, and contemplative care). In November of 2017, I travelled to Bali, Indonesia to complete he first 200 hours toward my advanced RYT 300-hour training with internationally renown yogis Tara Judelle & Dr. Scott Lyons on the journey to achieve my long term goal of becoming an Embodied Flow Somatic Movement Therapist. This summer I will complete the last 100 hours of the RYT-300 training with them in Paros, Greece. And looking forward, my educational goal for 2018 is to train to become a birthing doula.
